Choice Based Lettings

We will soon be changing the way we allocate our empty homes. Following some initial consultation with tenants, a draft Choice Based Lettings Policy has been prepared and we would welcome your views - even if you are not actively seeking housing at the moment. The deadline for comments is Monday 24 May 2010.

Face the People

West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership has organised a special public meeting on Wednesday 10 March to engage with residents and give feedback about what they are doing to fight crime and the fear of crime. The event focuses on young people.

Dave Guest, BBC North West’s Chief Reporter, will compere the event at Edge Hill University’s Wilson Centre, St Helens Road, Ormskirk and will encourage participation from the audience on the night. It’s a free, ticket-only event with refreshments at 6.30pm ready for a 7pm start.

Residential Development Policy

Following changes to regional and national policy, and in order to maintain a healthy supply of housing land, the Council proposes to relax its current housing policy. The revised policy will allow market housing in many of our rural settlements. It will also seek to secure a greater number of affordable housing units in the Borough. People are able to give their views on the proposed new policy until Thursday 18 March. All comments received will be taken into account and a report will be presented to the Council later in the spring. The new policy will not have the same status as the local plan, but will be an important factor to take into account when determining planning applications for housing.

Linear Park Feasibility Study

Consultants Gillespies and Regeneris are carrying out a feasibility study of the proposal to provide a linear park alongside the river and canal between Tarleton and Hesketh Bank. The study began in October 2009 and is due to be completed in February 2010. The consultants are speaking to a number of organisations, businesses and landowners to gathers views before finalising a report setting out proposals for the area together with costs and possible sources of funding.

Forward Plan

The Forward Plan lists "key" Cabinet decisions likely to be made over the next four months. These decisions may be made by the Cabinet or, occasionally, by individual Members or Officers of the Council acting under delegated authority. The plan is updated and rolled forward every month. It gives information about the subject involved and shows who will make the decision and when it will be made. The Plan also gives information about any consultation prior to the decision being made and advice on how you can make representations.
