Local Plan, Local Development Framework and Planning Policy

Current development plan for West Lancashire

The following plans and documents make up the 'development plan' for this area i.e. these are the main documents we look at when considering planning applications:

• West Lancashire Replacement Local Plan (2006) - this is the current adopted local plan for the borough.
• Supplementary planning guidance notes and documents - these provide extra detail on certain matters e.g design.
• Regional Spatial Strategy for the North West (external link) - this plan covers the whole of the North West, including West Lancashire.

Local Development Framework

• Local Development Framework (LDF) - the LDF is a set of documents we are working on, which will eventually replace the Local Plan.

Latest planning policy news

• Residential development policy - we are consulting on a draft new housing policy until 18 March.
• Employment land and premises study - we received a final draft study at the end of 2009 for checking.
• Housing study (SHLAA or 'call for sites') - we have now received the final draft study for checking before publication.
• West Lancashire 2027 - the Core Strategy "Options Paper" - we consulted on this document in autumn 2009. Our next steps are to analyse the comments people have made, and to prepare a "Preferred Option".
